Whether it is intentional or not, duplicate business listings can be a big problem for you. Instead of improving sales, duplicate business listings can actually cause you to lose business. Let’s have a look at some of the reasons why this may be the case:
Lack of Professionalism
Many green entrepreneurs are overzealous and may post duplicate business listings as a way to drive business to their website using multiple keywords. Or they post a listing for their business, forget about it when it doesn’t produce, and post another one months later.
In this respect, duplicate business listings are a clear sign of an amateur, and people who do not care for an amateur sales strategy will likely not waste time sifting through a lousy presentation for information about mediocre product.
One of the most annoying aspects of duplicate business listings is that they usually do not contain the same information. Google generally would not allow them to be posted if they did. Instead, they contain old phone numbers, fax numbers and different addresses.
Visitors who try to call these numbers or visit these addresses soon find that what they were looking for has up and left without addressing the issue. Either that or they assume the company has gone out of business, and look for someone else. When visitors try the second phone number and get through with another listing, they become disgusted by the lack of professionalism and seek out someone else.
Different Reviews on Different Listings
Another problem with duplicate listings is the lack of continuity in PR. You may receive high ratings on one listing and low ratings on the other. When people go to one of your listings and see a high rating, they are apt to make a phone call. Ensure that the phone number is correct. If visitors land on a listing with a low rating and nothing to counter it with, you may experience a drop in your conversion. If people cannot find the real you, they cannot buy from the real you
