Twitter's Web Interface Is Undergoing Transformation

If you've noticed a change in the layout and design of the desktop interface for Twitter then you're not alone! Most, if not all, Twitter users have been switched over to a brand new design and layout that feels like a positive update compared to previous incarnations. Through an official tweet on their own account, Twitter announced that they were going to be streamlining their web interface in order to match with their mobile app. The smaller version of your profile is going to be in the left hand corner with the Connect, Discover, and Me tabs on the top of the page. These tabs allow for you to intuitively discover currently trending topics and tweets, other Twitter users who have replied or starred your tweets, and maintaining your profile. The feed with actual content has remained largely untouched, however. Tweeted images and videos still come up as rich media that is interactive. The most prominent design change, besides the actual design and layout, is the ability to quickly tweet out your statuses and content rather than having to deal with a pop-up window. Also, while Twitter implemented this interface feature earlier last year, you can still search through users and trending items by typing an "@" or "#" symbol respectively to automatically put into your tweet. This streamlined and updated version of Twitter is a nice change and also matches perfectly with their mobile app. On top of that, there are many advantages for businesses. Like referenced above, curating and creating original content will be made much easier (unless you're already using a third party source like HootSuite). While Twitter is a highly popular social network, they are still lagging behind Facebook in terms of profitability and user numbers per month. As of 2014, only about 53 million active users are on Twitter but that doesn't mean it's not as effective as Facebook to get your voice out or message seen by specific target audiences.
